B.I.P. (BORDER INSPECTION POST)

After two years of bureaucratic procedures and a 125,000.00 euros-investment, on December 2002 "Federico Fellini" International Airport became one of the 15 airports in Italy to have a BIP (Border Inspection Post), which allows European and extra-European carriers to deal with procedures concerning the loading and unloading of animals and foodstuff produced from animals, with an appreciable time reduction.

The 19th of December 2002, the EU gave its approval publishing on the European Official Gazette the list of the airports judged suitable by the International Commission in Dublin (which includes the Rimini-San Marino International Airport).
The BIP (Border Inspection Post) in Rimini has a 120 m² veterinary surgery space and two 27 m³ cold stores that can reach a temperature of -20° C. At the BIP works a veterinary surgeon, who is part of EC TVO (EC Trade Veterinary Office). This person controls travel documents, samples goods in arrival and issues the Crossing Border Permission.

The Border Inspection Posts are the veterinary branches of the Minister of  Public Safety.

Legally recognized, they are allowed to make veterinary controls, as indicated on the procedures of the EC regulation, on alive animals, alimentary products with animal origin and animal foodstuff coming from extra-European countries (Legislative Decree of the 25th February 2000, n° 80 and Legislative Decree of the 3rd March 1993, n° 93).
